Obituary for Norman Hector Kavanaugh

Norman Hector  Kavanaugh
Norman Hector Kavanaugh, 81, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas passed away on April 27, 2017, after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicolas and Henrietta Delgado Kavanaugh; his brothers , Louis, Nick, Joe, Henry and Ernest Kavanaugh; his sisters, Dora Ortiz, Josie Garcia and Margie Sena. He is survived by sister Tita K. Lopez of Albuquerque and brother Arthur O. Kavanaugh of Albuquerque, long-time friend Daniel F. Lucero of Las Vegas, and his companion dog “Hercules”. Hector had numerous nieces and nephews as well as grand- nieces and nephews.
He graduated from West Las Vegas School where he played trumpet in the school band. He attended Highlands University and served in the National Guard for several years. He worked at Gambles and then for many years at Montgomery Ward. He taught Horticulture and was a Culinary Arts Instructor at Luna Community College. In later years he retired as Director of the Las Vegas Housing Authority. He was a Life Member of the Elks Lodge BPOE #408. He was active as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Sorrows where he was a long-time parishioner. He was a world traveler, often traveling with his sisters Margie and Tita. He loved to cook, especially for his family. He was an avid gardener and lover of dogs.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 1:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales Funerals & Cremations. Services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Father George V. Salazar will celebrate the Mass. The interment will follow in the San Jose Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Paul Kavanaugh, John Robert Lopez, Richard Sena, Mark Sena, Don Sena, and Lee Aragon. Honorary bearers will be Carlos Gallegos, Daniel Lucero, and Jim Sena.
